Arctic Ease Cold Wrap

You may remember that back in December when I posted my Christmas wishlist that Arctic Ease Cold Wrap was on it. I was especially intrigued because it was a great alternative to an ice bath.

Recently the company reached out to me and during some email correspondence, they offered to send me some samples to try! I was pretty stoke because they couldn’t have had better timing. The package arrived during a part of my training when I desperately needed it the most. Remember how my Achilles started acting up after my 20 miler? Well I took a week off from training and during that time, sampled the Arctic Ease Instant Cold Wraps.

Arctic Ease Cold Wrap

It’s a pretty awesome product! It provides cold therapy without the ice in a convenient product. Plus it doesn’t need refrigeration!

Here are the benefits of Arctic Ease Wraps taken from their fact sheet they provided me:

  • Provides instant cooling relief for up to 3 hours
  • Uses dual action cold and compression therapy to treat aches and pains sustained by active adults and athletes
  • Enables active recovery; unlike ice, the Arctic Ease Wrap conforms to the body and does not inhibit movement
  • According to a recent study, Arctic Ease was shown to be as effective as ice therapy in reducing pain, swelling and improving mobility, and because it was more comfortable and convenient, patients keep it on longer.

I used the smaller wrap for my heel/ankle area during my indoor cycle session and there were no restrictions. I almost forgot I was wearing except for the continuous coolness!

I was intrigued on how it would stay cool when it didn’t need any refrigeration. According to the fact sheet, the gel coating on the wrap absorbs and evaporates the heat energy while providing the cold therapy.

The proprietary gel coating is comprised of 6 core ingredients:

  • Water to solubilize the ingredients
  • An emollient for adhesion
  • Two preservatives to aid in the reuse of the product
  • A surfactant and resin that generate the gel coating

The gel does feel a bit slimy at first but I quickly got over that. It actually was a little soothing! According to Arctic Ease, you can get 5 uses per wrap. It’s easy to reuse too! Once you’re finished, just re-wrap, add a bit of water to the bottle, and store until you’re ready to use it again. Easy peasy!

I’m pretty sure these will definitely come in handy with my first marathon and the Palmetto 200 Relay Race coming up this month! In fact, I will be bringing one of the wraps on the Palmetto 200 relay race just in case my team needs it!

Here’s what the full size wrap looks like:
