Last year I set a goal to run at least 500 miles in 2013. When I set it, that was a stretch for me because the last few months of 2012, I struggled to even hit my monthly goal of 40 miles a month. But I knew if I buckled down, 500 was attainable. Then the long run bug bit me. And by the end of 2013, I had met that goal and ran a total of 649.08 miles.
In addition to running 3 half marathons and doing the 14 in 2014 Challenge this year, I’m also participating in #RunThisYear2014 to keep me motivated on reaching my new mileage goal!
So what is #RunThisYear?
Well, I’m glad
you I asked. It’s a free running challenge and community to help keep you motivated to run as much as you can! This year’s challenge has 3 options:
- Run the year in miles: 2,014 miles in 2014.
- Run the year in kilometers: 2,014 kilometers = 1251.4 miles.
- Set Your Own Goal! Participate by selecting a challenging mileage total for yourself and go for it!
The third option is ideal for new runners or someone starting the challenge later in the year. I’m personally going with the 3rd option and set a goal of running 1,000 miles in 2014. Considering I ran 649 miles last year with just one half marathon on the docket, I’m pretty sure 1,000 miles is definitely attainable this year with 3 half marathons on the docket.
This year I will more focused on incorporating strength training, yoga and stretching and rolling in order to keep myself injury free so that I can meet that goal!
