WIAW: I smell Fair food!

I’m totally slacking on this month’s theme!

It’s October and what does that mean? With cooler weather comes THE SC STATE FAIR! Yeah baby…the one time out of the year that I don’t feel guilty to inhaling greasy foods and a huge turkey leg along with insanely amounts of fried foods.

Let’s pretend that I have photo evidence of all that I just mentioned above. So sorry, but I was too busy inhaling it all to get the proper photos. But I do have some photo evidence that I really did go to the fair!

Pretend there’s a mini Krystal cheeseburger imposter
beside that batch of chili cheese fries

Yes, that’s a pork chop on a stick!

Our friend Brandi taking a chomp on that pork chop
while holding on to her turkey leg!

Um, yeah…that says 4 inches…

Doh! Nice try Maria…

What fair foods did I inhale? Let’s see…there was that mini cheeseburger and chili cheese fries, then a slice of cheese pizza, then a fried oreo, and a bucket of mini donuts sprayed with powdered sugar. Plus a turkey leg for the road. And just so you know, we spent 3 1/2 hours eating AND walking around the fair. We had to make room for the food in shifts ya know. {I totally sound like a pig, but it only comes once a year!}

Oh yeah, did I mention they had a Sea Lions show??

This week we also tried a new restaurant called HuHot Mongolian Grill. It’s pretty cool. You go to the bar and pull together your own fresh ingredients, take it over to the grill and the cooks grill it right there for you. They have loads of ingredients and sauces!

Don’t know what ingredients and sauces go well together?
Never fear, the tables come equipped with recipe cards!

Once the dinner rush came in, there were several cooks around that circular grill entertaining while cooking! Think Yamato’s {or some other hibachi grill where they cook the food right at your table} except mongolian style. I’d go there just for the cooks’ entertainment!

Remember when I talked about canning homemade tomato sauce? I actually invested in a canning pot this weekend. I bought a box of large tomatoes for $12 from the Farmers Market this past Saturday. Oh yeah, totally spent the weekend canning tomato sauce! Yum!

I got 10 pint jars out of that box of tomatoes. I canned 4 of them plain, 3 with fresh basil and fresh parsley, and the other 3 with some italian seasoning, oregano, and rosemary.

It can be a lot of work and time consuming, but well worth the effort. No preservatives and it’s fresh, all natural!!

{You know I had to throw in something healthy before ending this post…I just wouldn’t feel right if I didn’t!}

Is the fair in town?
Did you go or are you planning on going?
What are your favorite fair foods?

  1. I love the Mongolian Grill! They have one in SC where we go on vacation sometimes, and they also have one about an hour from where I live. It's so much fun to pick out your own ingredients and the end result always tastes amazing.
