Get Motivated Mondays: Labor Day Virtual Race

Happy Labor Day! I’ve been enjoying this three day weekend and I don’t want it to end. But alas, everything comes to an end and I’ll have to return to work tomorrow.

I noticed last month that I did not meet my goal of running 40 miles in the month of August. How disappointing. I realized that since I’ve focused on strength training more, my running is beginning to fall by the wayside. I must remedy this immediately!! What better way than to start out the month with a virtual race?? Not to mention that just because it’s a holiday weekend, doesn’t mean you still can’t get a run in!!

Thanks to Laura at Mommy, Run Fast for hosting this virtual race! I got up a little later than normal for my Saturday run. And I definitely paid for it. While I had a great finishing time a few weeks ago, this week’s run time was totally sucky for me and I like to think it was the heat.

Yep, that’s about a mile’s worth of direct sunlight coming up!

Not to mention that the pesky blister that showed up last Saturday apparently is still there. Boo. Running with a blister on your arch is no fun.

I mean really…who gets a blister on their ARCH?!?

But I pushed through it and finished my 5 miles, none-the-less! {Not sure if that was a smart idea or not…}

My 4 mile split was WAY slow for me! I’m assuming this
was about the time that blister really started to irritate me.

I’m glad I joined in on this virtual race. The best part of it? {Besides the motivating part…} It was free and you can do it anytime within the designated time frame!

If you’re interested in doing one, there’s another one in two weeks hosted by Kelly. I’ll be signing up for that one today! :)

  1. So glad the race encouraged you to get out and run, even if you had to deal with blisters and heat. It only makes you stronger right?! :) Great job! Enjoy the rest of your day off.

  2. I also found doing the 5 mile virtual race to be very motivating. It also made me want to do some speed training so I can get faster.

  3. What doesn't kill me, makes me awesome! ;) Thanks for the much needed motivation to get my running back on track!

  4. I've been thinking that same exact thing! I want to incorporate more proper training into my runs so that I can work on speed and endurance. :)

  5. I get so mad at myself too when I get to running later than I hoped. The sun can definitely slow you down. Great Job!

  7. Thanks! Yeah, I'm always thankful for the overcast days when I'm running. :)

  8. Thanks! I even tried to put a band aid on it but it didn't work. :(
