Celebrate blogging. Celebrate Food. Celebrate Individuality.

Doesn’t the word “summer” bring to mind images of the beach? Well, what is summer without a visit to the beach? PJ and I took a trip to Charleston this past weekend for his birthday. We spent Saturday afternoon on Folly Beach, swimming and baking in the sun!

And what better way to eat afterwards than to stuff your face full of seafood?!

{Appetizer} Calamari!
{Lunch}
Steamed crab legs, shrimp, oysters, sausage, corn, and potatoes

I was in heaven!

Afterwards we just had to hit up Tanger Outlet Malls to see what sales were going on for tax free weekend. I can’t NOT go in the Adidas outlet every time I go there. I ended up scoring a couple of new running shorts and a tank!

Don’t laugh at the pink shorts {if you know me, then you’re laughing right now}…I think they match my running shoes!

I was the first one up on Sunday, so I made the breakfast run to Panera Bread. If you haven’t tried one of their smoothes, then you should!

Strawberry smoothie with ginseng

{Breakfast} Bacon, egg white, & cheese on a ciabatta and a blueberry scone with my Dunkin Donuts blueberry coffee {coffee courtesy of my sister’s roomie!}

PJ baked a little too long on the beach Saturday, so we opted for roaming through the Charleston Market. Afterwards we stopped in at the Noisy Oyster for a late lunch. PJ was hoping to try the gator meat but unfortunately they were out, as was all of Charleston according to the waiter. Oh well…more seafood then!!

Lobster Mac N Cheese

{Oysters Rockefeller} Fresh oysters topped with herbed spinach and butter
{Buffalo Oysters} Lightly fried to a golden brown and tossed in our spicy buffalo sauce

Sunday night we stayed in Mount Pleasant so that we could spend Monday on the Isle of Palms. This was also the place for my first ever beach run! Just because I was on a mini-vacation doesn’t mean that I was on vacation from working out! I opted for swimming for an hour in the ocean as my workout on Saturday. That means I saved my “long” run day for Monday so I could enjoy the morning run on the beach. I was planning and anticipating this run since before we got to Charleston…and it did not disappoint! I’m totally jealous of anyone who lives close enough to a beach. I only wish I had daily access to such a beautiful route for my runs!

Lucky for me the hotel provided a continental breakfast because I was starving after my run!

scrambled eggs, whole wheat toast, an apple, and yogurt

What foods do you indulge in while at the beach or on vacation?

    I need that lobster mac and cheese, omg!!! looks so fab. love the shorts- super cute! I am a huge fan of outlet shopping! At the beach- I tend to sway more towards seafood just because it's rare that it's fresh by me! I still manage to eat pretty healthy though otherwise!
